The Highland Game of Shinty is an exciting spectacle not to be missed if you have the chance.
A game deeply rooted in history, it is still a thriving sport today with some 35 teams affiliated to the Shinty Association and competing regularly in the summer months.
However it is the 2 villages of Newtonmore and our neighbours Kingussie that are, perhaps, the names most associated with success. As you can imagine, being just 2 miles apart, the rivalry between the 2 clubs is intense.
Newtonmore is historically the game’s most successful side, having won the Camanachd Cup, the Scottish National Shinty Trophy a record 33 times and are the present holders. The club has also won the MacTavish Cup a record 42 times!
